Unit 2
Human Head Modeling
Understanding the Human Face
I first sketched a replica of a skull to understand the bone structure, which will
allow me to emphasize them when I'm actually modelling the face. The
task was less about making a good looking sketch of the skull, but so that I
can focus on the bone structure which will assist me in my work. Next I
researched the muscles and what their job is. This is so that I can enlarge
them if I'm making a superhuman or an incredibly strong character.

Designing the character
Lore
In ancient China where an elven child was brought up to master the art of wielding a katana. He was not taught how to write or speak; he only understood a handful of orders that his master gives. At the age of 12 he swore to protect his village from any evil, and by the age of 20 he already defeated multiple barbarian raids. He killed so many, and every time he did, the villagers clapped and cheered, but he did not understand that they were cheering for him that he saved the village, in his mind he thought every time he kills, people will be happy. And so whenever a small problem within the village arose instead of trying to reason, he just killed them without a flinch or any sign of holding back.
Eventually the villagers were too scared of him and agreed to banish the samurai. He didn't understand why, why did his friends betray him? He only thought that his allies had turned against him, his allies is now his enemy. When nightfall came he sneaked in to the village, and house-by-house, room-by-room he killed all citizens, all except the shrine in which his master lives in.
When the red sun peered out, his master saw all the murders. He knew who did them.
The samurai left the village with the thought of that people can't be trusted, and therefore must die. With his expert survival skills he wandered the forests slaying whatever is in his way; tigers, barbarians or a merchants. With these actions he became wanted all over China.
He destroyed entire villages each one being larger and larger, until he came upon the capital.
Without a second of hesitation he rushed in slaying the first two guards and all the civilians around them. Everyone screamed and ran for their lives. The samurai's face expression didn’t change once after killing dozens of civilians. He continued to slash and flail his sword until falling due to exhaustion. The guards did not risk anything and so they killed him on the spot.
The samurai's head now rests on a spike, a message to everyone.

Face mesh
I tried to get an image of a Chinese warrior so it fits with the lore of the character, however that did not turn out to look good as the skin of the head did not match the face. I made the sculpture fit the image perfectly but it just looked flat since I got a 2d image. The image projection actually made the sculpture look worse, and so I discovered my weakness: adding textures/meshes. Other than the texturing I found the mouth second hardest to do since it widely varies in shape across different people.
The eyes were also a real pain as making them squinted as they will either not fit the texture or the sculpture will look odd.
Here is the sculpture without a face mesh:
