Unit 5
Fire safety animation
Charlie fire safety
This animation series use a side character to deliver the message as children are more attracted and therefore more likely to listen to cartoons. Children will also laugh at the exaggerated cat actions when it’s speaking, this will make the cat more likeable by the children and again more likely to listen to the cat. The animation is 30 seconds long so that it easily fits in TV between different cartoons. The background is plain so that the child does not get distracted and focuses on the message the video is trying to deliver.
Adult directed PSA
PSA directed at adults tends to pass the message by making the adult feel guilt, which is often perceived as showing a child suffering and making the adult imagine it happen to their child. There is no music to infer the seriousness of the incident. Before the shot of the glass all we could hear is the child's footsteps to show how hard he is stepping.
Focus on fire destruction
My animtion will too focus on the destruction that fire can cause. In this the video clearly follows the chain reaction that the fire causes.

2 Point setting
Making a setting to a 2 point perspective will allow me to easily make an illusion of distance.
Parallax effect
Making a setting to a 2 point perspective will allow me to easily make an illusion of travelling and far objects in the distance.

Rotoscoping
Rotoscoping is a technique where the actions are acted out in real life then the animator traces over the actors movements frame-by-frame to create drawn animation of the actors movements. I animated Parov Stelar dancing to Catgroove because there are a lot of smooth and interesting movements, and also because his dance moves are great. It took me 3-5 hours to animate 65 frames where it is displayed on 24 frames per second, meaning I have only produced a 2.7 second long animation. This technique is great to get life-like animations but consumes a lot of time and produces a jittery effect to it.
I animated between 1:00 to 1:03
Final Animation
The animation achieved its goal and thanks to the research it's more likely to appeal and more likely for the children to listen to the moral it's trying to put through. This is done by having the squirrel speak to the children rather than a scary firefighter is more appealing to children and therefore they will be more likely to listen. This same technique is used in "Charlie says". My animation focuses on making the children feel guilty for burning down the forest, which is also used in the beach bottle PSA with the style of: showing the consequences and then "you could avoid this by...".
I decided to go with the parallax effect rather than the 2 or 1 point perspective as I can achieve the sense of distance by shading the background trees in different colours: each row getting darker and bluer. Another reason that I did parallax is because enlarging everything and for it to be to scale will take a very long, whereas parallax won't take long and will achieve the similar results.
